About the Hong Kong Laureate Forum

Welcome to the September 2026 issue of the Hong Kong Laureate Forum newsletter!

From 9 to 10 September 2026, we successfully hosted the Science Seminar – Science in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The two-day programme brought together leading academics, industry pioneers, and emerging young researchers for a transformative dialogue and insightful interactions.

With close to 300 participants attending in person, including 14 distinguished speakers and moderators, and more than 200 young scientists, the seminar served as a premier platform to explore how scientists are leveraging computational intelligence to reshape the future of scientific research.

The Convergence of Knowledge

Three thematic sessions examined pressing questions in today’s scientific landscape. With a distinguished lineup of scientists and innovators, participants charted new boundaries across diverse disciplines.

Session 1 – The Frontiers of Discovery: Life Science and Translational Therapeutics highlighting how algorithmic models introduced new dimensions to diagnostics, bioinformatics, genome editing and translational research.

Session 2 – From Pure Logic to Urban Reality: Mathematics, GeoAI, and Technology mapping the intersection between raw data, mathematical research, spatial AI, and smart city development.

Session 3 – Beyond the Algorithm: Computer Science, Generative AI, Data and Trust delving into the ethnics of AI, methodological considerations in research, and pathways to commercial translation.

From the Lab to the World

Alongside insights from veteran academics, three industry pioneers demonstrated how AI-enabled data processing has propelled research breakthroughs into innovative products and services. The overarching message was clear: computational power does not replace human ingenuity—it amplifies it.

Snapshots from Next-Gen Researchers

The energy of the next generation was a defining highlight of the event. During the Flash Presentations, 11 researchers delivered fast-paced pitches on cutting-edge projects spanning data science and biomedicine. This momentum carried seamlessly into the Interactive Poster Dialogue, where 12 young scientists showcased their work visually, engaging in informed exchange and receiving direct feedback from leading scientists and peers.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our distinguished speakers and every participant whose insights and sharing made this gathering a remarkable success. We also thank CUHK, our co-organiser, for their unwavering support. Highlight Video, Photo Gallery and archives are available for those who wish to relive the inspirational moments!
